Lots of recommendations from different people were enough for me to add Stratford-upon-Avon to my UK travel bucket list! Although I love traveling abroad and learning more about different cultures and lifestyles, I’m also keen on local holidays and staycations, so during the Easter bank holiday weekend, we decided to explore this medieval market town in England's West Midlands. Known as Shakespeare's England, Stratford-upon-Avon also gained popularity because its also the birthplace of William Shakespeare, one of the most famous writer of England.

Just 20 minutes by drive from Stratford-upon-Avon was our hotel, Mercure Warwickshire Walton Hall Hotel & Spa, where we were supposed to stay for a night before heading back home the following day. We reached the hotel 2 hours after the check-in time, we had an extremely smooth check-in at the reception and were explained everything about the services available at the hotel. Since the hotel is spread across on a huge land, there are different clusters of buildings for hotel rooms, spa and restaurant. They’re not connected but can be approached within a short walk, and it would be safe to say that everything is at a stone’s throw!

Our room was near the lake, and since it was short walk from the main reception, there was ample complimentary car park for hotel guests just outside our building too. The massive lush green grounds surrounding the hotel building giving spectacular views for miles are definitely relaxing to see, especially after waking up!

Our suite had really high ceilings and the sizes of each room were praiseworthy - the bedroom had all the amenities we could ask for, including a TV, tea/coffee facility, iron and iron stand, a hair dryer, safe, slippers, bath robes and ample storage space in the wardrobe to keep all our belongings. The balcony adjoining the room was also a great addition to enjoy a hot drink outdoors, while enjoying the fresh breeze, making it a perfect romantic getaway.

The sitting room was tastefully decorated with the perfect selection of colours and furniture while the dressing room was an absolute dream! The impressive free standing bath, with a mirrored dressing table and a massive mirror hanging on the wall was everything a girl could ask for! There was also a separate toilet and shower room with all the essential toiletries and towels.

Immediately after settling in, we headed straight to the spa to ensure we're able to enjoy the spa and the pool before the closing time. The pool timings for children differ than the adult timings, so make sure to check with the reception when booking the room. The spa also provides towels and the changing room has all the necessary items such as shampoo and body wash, hair dryer, lockers and bags for you to carry the wet clothes.

We were a bit tired after the swim, so we got changed and decided to eat. We had our three course dinner at the restaurant, which was located just near the reception. The restaurant was really busy, but the ambience was perfect for a family friendly meal and a couple of tables were also celebrating birthdays of their loved ones. Not to forget, it was also my birthday weekend, that week we I had to order cake for dessert.

Our starters included roasted tomato and pepper soup, which was quite delicious and flavourful. We also ordered the classic prawn cocktail that was served with baby gem and Marie rose sauce and a cheese and tomato pizza for BabyN'.

For the mains, both of us ordered grilled salmon that was served with crushed new potatoes, asparagus and pea shoots along with some olive oil drizzled on the plate. I happily cleaned my plate soon after it arrived and enjoyed the main.

For dessert, we opted for Black Country Gateau with a dark chocolate sponge that was served with vanilla ice cream. The cake was light and airy, just as we had expected and was absolutely beautiful! For the little one, we ordered a fruit salad, and our choice from the selection of Jude's ice creams was mango sorbet, chocolate and caramel.

Just after finishing dinner, we decided to retire for the day and walked back to the suite to catch some Z's. The next day was ready for us with lots of excitement but we had to fuel up before heading to the attractions planned for the day! The restaurant at Mercure Warwickshire Walton Hall Hotel serves both hot and cold breakfast items including the items of an English breakfast, baked items, fruits, yogurt, tea and coffee.

We had an amazing stay at the hotel, and would definitely love to stay again in future too! The staff at the hotel was fantastic, and welcoming.
