5 Reasons You Should Have a Seasonal Wardrobe

As spring rolls around, it’s likely that you will give your house a refresh and declutter, but what about your wardrobe? Giving your closet a seasonal update, along with your home, is beneficial for not only the organisation of your wardrobe but for your personal style too. After all, who wants to be fighting against winter coats in the height of summer, trying to locate that beautiful maxi dress you bought last year! Still to be convinced? These five pointers in favour of a seasonable wardrobe might just change your mind.

It keeps your wardrobe tidy

Let’s start with the obvious reason, having a seasonable wardrobe enables you to maintain a tidy closet that’s organised and in-line with the current season. You don’t have to fight with your faux furs to make room for new summer purchases and you won’t end up with a rather unattractive floordrobe.

If you’re struggling to find space for your clothing when you want to put it away ready for when the next season comes around, consider hiring a self-storage unit. This is particularly handy if you own a lot of bulky clothing items such as padded coats and knitwear. You can access them whenever needed and enjoy a home that isn’t overflowing with cashmere knits.

It ensures you know what you have in the wardrobe

How many times have you been searching through a drawer and discovered a top that you’d completely forgotten about? Or worse still, found an item of clothing with the tags still on? It happens, especially when we get carried away whilst sale shopping. According to research by Movinga, we don’t wear 50% of our wardrobes

The beauty of a seasonal wardrobe is that it forces you to perform your own mini stock-take when the new season rolls around, and you can have a better understanding of your own clothing and give away anything you don’t wear anymore.

You can style better outfits

Organising your wardrobe ahead of the new season can provide you with a burst of inspiration and new outfit ideas to try. It’s hard to visualise pretty summer outfits when you’re faced with a wardrobe that’s bursting at the seams with a jumble of winter-wear, holiday clothes and thermals all in one. A tidy wardrobe allows for a more exciting, easier, styling process.

You can build a capsule wardrobe

Switching your wardrobe up for spring/summer and autumn/winter can also give you the opportunity to create the perfect capsule wardrobe. Start with items you already own and hold onto those that you wear the most. Think about purchasing clothes that will have longevity, rather than fast fashion trends.

Key staples include a pair of well-fitting jeans, a trench coat, basic t-shirts in neutral shades, a pair of tailored trousers, a Breton top, and a pair of classic ankle boots. Of course, these are just a starting point and you may wish to experiment with other pieces, but building a solid capsule wardrobe will enable you to save money in the long run and enjoy a clutter-free closet.

It will encourage a clear-out

Many of us tend to ignore the need to declutter until we really have to, what with other life commitments getting in the way. It’s easy to let chores get on top of you, but by switching your wardrobe around for the different seasons, it forces you to evaluate your clothing situation and perhaps put some less-worn items aside to donate to charity and free up additional space in your wardrobe and your home.

  4. We used to do this every year, swap wardrobes....and the last reason listed is the best.
Clearing out older clothes which haven't been worn is always a smart play....and with charity shops close by,someone else could benefit from it as well.

  5. I always have a clear out at the beginning of each season and declutter every 6 weeks just to keep things fresh.
