The Eden Project Cornwall UK

The Eden Project is an educational charity that aims to connect people with the living world in order to build a better future. The money raised from the Project is utilized for an array of learning programs and transformational projects. In addition to an amazing variety of plants, landscapes and crop installations, the site offers massive covered Biomes including the largest Rainforest in captivity and a Mediterranean setting. Eden Project is not only educational but provides the visitors an experience that allows them to engage in a wonderful story time.

Visitor Center

On reaching the Eden Project, the visitors make their way through the entrance where tickets can be bought on the day. A full priced adult ticket costs £27.50 but ordering online in advance can fetch you a good 10% discount. Discounted prices are also offered to students, while the children under 4 can enter free. Further and updated details can be found on the  The Eden Project's website. Memberships are an absolute bargain for frequent visitors and plant lovers since it comes with some added treats, discounts as well as priority access to enjoy what goes on behind the scenes at exclusive events.

Visiting The Eden Project is a great way for spending time with family and friends. Apart from the amazing sights and sounds of the huge space, visitors can also take back some memories through a visit to their store or pick plants on sale. While exploring one can also take a break and enjoy a meal or a hot drink at several of their cafes. They've also got an ATM and plenty of loos for the convenience of the visitors.

The fun then begins on the other side of the visitor center! Maps are available to help planning the routes. Visitors can opt for an easier route through the slopes of earthly treasures or a challenging steep path called Zigzag through time. Access is also through steps, lift or by boarding a free land train that runs every 15-20 minutes between the visitor center and the stage area. The Stage is the base of the seasonal events that include the Great Easter Egg Hunt, music events, some events in summer program and a winter festival with ice skating and our dear Father Christmas.

We were happy to take the slopes of earthly treasures that displayed some interesting and fun information on our way to the biomes. At the biomes entrance, we made our way through the link which is a grass-roofed building leading to both the Rainforest and Mediterranean biomes. It also has The Eden Kitchen where food is served for all ages and throughout the day.

Rainforest Biome

Visiting the Rainforest biome at the Eden Project was an extremely exceptional experience. Rainforest canopy walkway was one of my favourites! I enjoyed the trek through the steamy jungle to discover the way in which the rainforests keep us alive. The climate inside this section is quite warm and humid as you may expect. If it starts taking a toll, to my relief, there is a cool room with an air conditioner half way up where a short break can help things get better. There are quite a few water dispensers as well should you feel the need to take a sip.

Mediterranean Biome

In this biome, I got to see the sights and scents from the Mediterranean, California, South Africa and Western Australia. Strolling through the world's kitchen gardens with vines, olives and citrus grove was quite an interesting affair. There are also talks held at the Mediterranean Biome, which can be of interest for both adults and children.

Outer Estate

The outer estate consists of Wild chile, forest garden, free car park, and also a hangloose (skywire/giant swing) which the adventurous visitors can enjoy. The outdoor gardens are perfect for kids to run around, especially in summer. In 1998, the site where The Eden Project currently is was a barren landscape, but today it has an amazing variety of plants and crops as well as wild landscapes.

Core

This is the place where the exhibitions, and art programmes take place. They've also got a 75-tonne seed sculpture and a play area for kids, but unfortunately it was closed when we visited so couldn't go inside. There is also a Core Cafe inside, which is open in peak season and offers hot and cold food and drinks.

Schnookle Quest

This seasonal activity at The Eden Project was in collaboration with the movie, 'Early Man.' A timeline of civilizations had been displayed in the rainforest biome for the children to learn about the discoveries and the many things that had been passed by the Early Man to the next generation. At the entrance, we were provided an activity sheet that needed us to visit the four trail points to fill in the quest before arriving the bronze age. This was an interesting activity for BabyN' and he enjoyed colouring the circles on the activity sheet, with the crayons on each trail.

Avenue of Senses

Out of the biomes and while walking towards the exit, we came across the Avenue of Senses where the visitors can sit and relax while listening to the birds chirping and the water flowing down an artificial pond.

Once we explored most of The Eden Project, we headed towards the lift to go back to the visitor center to exit as the sun was about to set, and we had to head back to our hotel in Plymouth. On ascending to the upper level, we had to proceed on a bridge which offered some of the best views of the vast Eden Project .

At the exit, you can purchase plants from the Hart Deck, and also visit their shop to buy some more stuff. The interesting bit - most of the products are ethical, sustainable and recycled, which gives you that nice feeling after being close to the mother nature during the visit. I really loved the colorful products on display and wanted to buy all but ended up getting a Bamboo coffee cup. You can also watch the VLOG of my visit to The Eden Project on my YouTube channel.
