Restaurant Review: Khyber Pass Restaurant, London
Khyber Pass Restaurant in East London (Green Street) serves Halal food and is quite a popular dining spot for those who love Peshawari food. Peshawar is a city in Pakistan famous for its food and hard-working people.
The most popular food at the restaurant is the Peshawari Lamb Kerhai and Peshawari Kababs. I was introduced to the restaurant by a cousin who is himself a very regular diner there. It is located on the Green Street and being in London, parking is a bit of a task to achieve before one finally gets to tantalise the taste buds with the delicious food they serve.
Parking & Seating:
After successfully locating a parking spot that was luckily nearby, my family and I finally got seated inside the restaurant. The diners get to choose from two sitting options that Khyber Pass has to offer, the first being the traditional one, sitting on the floor and food served on a dastarkhwan (a Persian term for a big ceremonial or feasty spread) while the latter the regular one i.e. table and chairs. The interior has been done in a traditional manner and its according to the theme of the restaurant.
The Beginning:
Once we settled down, the waitress served us the Peshawari Kehwa in a small traditional tea-pot normally used by the chaiwalas at the dhabas (tea vendors at small tea cafes mainly found in India and Pakistan).
The Food:
For the main course we ordered Peshawari Chapli Kebabs, Peshawari Lamb Kerhai, Chicken Kerhai and Seekh Kebabs that were served with fresh green salad with chaat masala (a popular powdered spice mix of the subcontinent) sprinkled on it and mint yoghurt chutney or you may call it sauce. It didn't take long for the food to arrive and the waitress kept on bringing hot naan breads right from the kitchen whenever the need arose. In the end, the waitress again served the Peshawari kehva and two plates of rainbow zarda (sweet rice), a popular dessert served in Pakistan. The end note was good and we all enjoyed our meal. There are many other sweet items that the restaurant has to offer. I didn't try because I was too full but I am looking forward to try their kulfi and ras malai although I already have a hack for serving a yummy bowl of kulfi, which I had served to guests recently and they thoroughly enjoyed it!
Dhaba Style Restaurant - Entrance (Pic 1)
Peshawari Lamb Kerhai - 1kg for £24 (Pic 2)
Peshawari Chapli Kebab - Large for £7 (Pic 3)
End Note:
Nothing today is complete without some photography and we made sure we did some before leaving the restaurant. KP Restaurant has a website on which you can find their menu. I feel the prices are slightly high for some items especially if compared with the sitting and decor but the service was good and the staff was friendly. I have visited the restaurant twice with a big group and we enjoyed the meal.

They have placed a few char paaes outside the restaurant for those who would prefer eating in the open but December nights in London are chilly so not a good idea to sit outside esp if with kids. :-)
