A stay at Park Regis - Luxury Hotel in Birmingham, UK
I've mentioned before about my love for staying at luxury hotels and since I've traveled to several countries around the world, I also have the experience of staying in lots of hotels. The recent trip to Birmingham wasn't something that was in the plan since a long time but a last minute trip. We had to meet some friends, therefore the 4 hour road trip.
We left early morning from East Kent and reached just in time for lunch. I had already done some research and I was quite impressed with the tall building of the Park Regis Hotel, a 4 star luxury hotel in Birmingham city center (at end of Broad Street), where we were supposed to stay. It has a fantastic location and is very near to most of the attractions you would want to see when in Birmingham. I will write a detailed post on things to see and do in the coming weeks.
The check-in at Park Regis (Birmingham) starts from 3:00 pm but since we reached early, we decided to roam around the area and eat before going inside this luxury hotel, just to save our time. After having lunch and exploring the area a bit with some photography (a must), we decided to head back to the hotel.
Did I say head back? Yeah, because we had already been there to park the car near the hotel building. The hotel car park has ample space and is pay and display. However, very near to the hotel is the council parking which costs lesser than the hotel parking. By very near I mean, less than a minute's walk or maybe 30 second if you decide to run. The maximum number of hours you can pay and display is for 4 hours so we were charged £3 for 4 hours parking and the parking is free 6:00 pm onward till 8:00 am. However, it needs to be paid again after 8:00 am, which can also be paid using a mobile phone so you can do that even from the hotel room, just like we did.
After entering the hotel, we just had to go to the reception (4th floor) in an elevator to complete the check-in formalities. It hardly took a minute and we got our room keys. The entrance was impressive with a gorgeous chandelier welcoming the hotel guests and ample space to sit and relax. I liked the fact that the card needs to be swiped inside the elevator to go to your floor as this ensures privacy for the guests and not just anyone can enter your floor.
The room we were given was nice and fresh, airy and clean. Luckily, it was also on the 7th floor so we got to see lovely views and since it was the Guy Fawkes nights, I got to see beautiful displays of the fireworks.
Inside the room, the first thing that caught my attention were the macaroons beautifully laid on a plate that said welcome to Park Regis, a candy jar and a welcome card with my name handwritten on it. I love personal touches that any entity adds to make the user's experience even more memorable.
Since my son was sound asleep, I waited patiently to enjoy my macaroon because I wanted to finish photographing and filming the details for you all, after which my husband and I decided to enjoy a peaceful cup of tea but BabyN' decided to join us and as soon as he woke up, the first thing he looked forward to were the macaroons. They really were awesome and one of the best I've ever tried!
There was a spacious cupboard with hangers, a safe, an iron and an ironing board and a hair dryer. There was also a writing desk with a chair and the room's food menu displayed on the table. The lounge chair was also very comfortable and it was nice and relaxing sitting there after a long walk around Birmingham.
The bed in our room was king-size, had table lamps on both sides, a very comfortable and clean bedding that ensured a good night's sleep. The only thing I wished they should have included as well was a mini-bar, but thanks to the change in the weather, the leftover food we had from the restaurant we ate at lunch, remained fine even without the fridge.
Our bathroom was also clean and had all the facilities a traveler can wish for - shampoo and conditioner, hand & body lotion, body wash, a shower cap, shoe polish sponge and a soap. There was a normal shower and a rain shower with different sized towels, a pair of each size (hand and body).
The hotel also has a gym, luxurious Shakina urban spa, and a good sized bar and sitting areas. Even their lounges are big and luxurious with beautiful chandeliers and comfortable lounge chairs throughout. I love massages in luxury settings and have experienced them at many known hotels but since we were a bit tight on the schedule, I did't opt for it this time, although their spa looked great!
Park Regis (Birmingham) serves breakfast till 11:00 am and this was included in the stay. It was a buffet breakfast served at 1565, their restaurant on the 4th floor. There were different counters at the restaurant with all the bakes on one table, which is always my favourite part of the breakfast and it also reminded me of The Great British Bake Off (GBBO). Everything was freshly baked and the blueberry muffin and the cinnamon rolls were my favourite!
The breakfast at 1565 at Park Regis (Birmingham) included both hot (tea and coffee served in style, on the table) and cold drinks (4 flavours of juices), assorted cereal, different breads, fruits and strawberry yogurt. There was also a live cooking station where you can get the eggs as you like. We had egg whites omelette which I had with bread and tomato ketchup. That's how I like it ... and right after the breakfast, we decided to check-out from the hotel to see the city around before leaving for lunch at a friend's place. However, if you have a plan to dine inside the hotel, there is a Japanese restaurant and sky bar on the 16th floor called Rofuto.
The overall decor of the hotel was cosy and inviting with a clean, modern look. I am very positive to stay at this hotel next time I am in Birmingham.
