Restaurant Review: Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Canterbury - UK

Gourmet Burger Kitchen

It was some weekday when we decided to go to the Canterbury town centre to have dinner. I had often heard of Gourmet Burger Kitchen and had crossed the restaurant many times but always ended up sticking to the restaurant where my family and I eat always. This time, we thought of trying Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Canterbury because someone recently visited us and gave us a positive review about it.

Location & Parking:

Gourmet Burger Kitchen is located on the main street of the Canterbury town centre so it's very easy to locate. Other than their Canterbury branch, they also have restaurants at many other locations such as Covet Garden, Soho, Brunswick and Waterloo. These locations are mentioned on their website but I remember spotting it at the Intu Metrocentre in Newcastle too, just next to Nandos.

The paid parking lot is just across West gate and is free after 9:00 pm but it is difficult to find parking there in the evening.
However, there is also parking available on the main street after the railway crossing and it's free after 6:30 pm. I wasn't aware of this earlier and always used to pay at the parking lot near the main street but this newly found spot saves my pounds. It is 2 minutes by walk from there to the restaurant.

Seating & Interior:

Gourmet Burger Kitchen is same like the other restaurants from outside but as I went further in, I realised how spacious it is from inside. You are accompanied to the seat where you can sit and decide the order that later needs to be placed at the counter. Yes! The staff does not come and take the order but they do serve it on the table.

The Dining Experience:

Please note that all burgers are not Halal and even all chicken burgers aren't Halal. Just their range from the fried chicken is Halal, not even grilled chicken but you can swap it with any other burger you like.

Our meal was served soon after the order was placed but unfortunately, it was the wrong order. Our waiter made us aware that the chicken in the burgers wasn't Halal. Now our burgers had to be replaced and so he took them back and came after some time with the right order that was a burger meal and Cajun Blue (costs £9.15 for a burger only) that comes with
Cajun marinated chicken, blue cheese slaw, jalapeƱos, pineapple and sriracha mayo.

They had a burger meal deal on offer at the time I visited and that consisted of a Classic Chicken burger that comes with house mayo, relish, salad and the original one costs £8.65. There are options to choose from chargrilled or panko crumbed & fried. However, if you want the Halal option, only the fried chicken should be your choice. This meal was served with Chunky skin-on fries (£3.35) and a soda (£2.60) but we got the whole meal deal for £8 or 9. If you want, you can see their menu, here

Both came in proper serving plates. The tables already have salt and pepper and the ketchup.

They do free refills if you are opting for soda as a drink. Unfortunately, I had not known that earlier but I personally confirmed it from their staff on the drinks counter before leaving.

Our table already got cleared so I couldn't ask for a refill. It was too late for me but this is a great TIP for you if you are a soda fan.

End Note:

Although it was a week day, Gourmet Burger Kitchen was still busy which showed how popular it is. The staff was friendly and the place was nice but for me, the music was slightly loud and the food was pretty average. I don't think it was much of a value for money and their Halal options are very limited but maybe I would go again if they add more Halal items to their menu.

Rating: 6.5/10

Have you dined at Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Canterbury or at any of their other locations? I would love to know about your favourite burger spot.

  3. You can never beat a good home cooked burger, and free drinks refills are awesome! This looks like a great place for dinner, I couldn't tell from the photo though, is that an American diner style bench table? I love those!

  16. Thanks to the recent development here, there is no longer a place to be avoided at night. This is a perfect location for a classy, elegant event. It’s great when everyone gathers at NYC venues for an incredible picture.
